Effects of germination conditions on ascorbic acid level and yield of soybean sprouts

چکیده
The effects of light illumination on the ascorbic acid content and growth of soybean sprouts were investigated. Among the six light qualities studied, ultraviolet light had the highest promoting effect on the ascorbic acid content in soybean sprouts, increasing it by 77.0% compared with the darkness control, while red light had the highest promoting effect on the growth of soybean sprouts, increasing the total fresh weight by 16.6% compared with the darkness control. Experiments with different durations of ultraviolet and red light illumination in a day showed that 12 h ultraviolet (500 Lx) and 12 h red (1000 Lx) light diurnal cycles had the highest promoting effects on both the ascorbic acid level and fresh weight of soybean sprouts, increasing the ascorbic acid content and total fresh weight by 78.7 and 17.4% respectively compared with the darkness control. The results indicated that germination of soybeans under 12 h ultraviolet and 12 h red light diurnal cycles was an effective process for increasing the yield and enhancing the nutritional quality of soybean sprouts. 2005 Society of Chemical Industry

The Effects of Seed Priming with Acid Ascorbic on Seed Germination and Morphological Traits of Taverniera cuneifolia under Drought Stress
The species of Taverniera cuneifolia belonging to the family of legominoseae is a perennial species usually growing in the south of Iran. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the drought stress and seed priming using acid ascorbic (AsA) on seed germination of Taverniera cuneifolia in laboratory and seedling morphological traits in greenhouse conditions. This study was cond...
متن کاملSoybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) Sprouts Germinated under Red Light Irradiation Induce Disease Resistance against Bacterial Rotting Disease
Specific wavelengths of light can exert various physiological changes in plants, including effects on responses to disease incidence. To determine whether specific light wavelength had effects on rotting disease caused by Pseudomonas putida 229, soybean sprouts were germinated under a narrow range of wavelengths from light emitting diodes (LEDs), including red (650-660), far red (720-730) and b...
متن کاملAMELIORATION OF NICKEL TOXICITY IN SOYBEAN PLANTS BY GIBBERELLIN AND ASCORBIC ACID
The interactive effects of nickel (Ni) and ascorbic acid (AsA) and gibberellin (GA3) on soybean seedlings (Glycine max L. cv. Union × Elf) were examined. Seven-day old hydroponically-grown seedlings were exposed to NiCl2, 6H2O (0.5 mM), either with or without AsA (1 mM) or GA3 (0.05 mM) or AsA (1 mM) plus GA3 (0.05 mM), for five days. Nickel toxicity symptoms, such as formation of reddish-brown...
متن کاملEffect of salinity stress on Vicia faba productivity with respect to ascorbic acid treatment. Awatif Ali Mohsen, Mohsen Kamal Hassan Ebrahim and Wael Fathy Saad Ghoraba*
A field experiment was carried out to study the response of presoaked faba bean seeds (Vicia faba cv. Misr 2) in freshly prepared ascorbic acid (50 ppm) or distilled water (control) for 4 hrs at natural environmental conditions, to salinity stress. NaCl treatments caused a reduction in all productivity and yield parameters as compared with control, particularly at high NaCl level (150 mM), wher...
متن کاملZnO affects soybean grain yield, oil quantity and quality and leaf antioxidant activity in drought stress conditions
Lack of available water in arid and semi-arid regions has a negative effect on the production of soybean (Glycine max L.). Nano zinc chelate (ZnO) has the potential to alleviate this issue through overcoming zinc deficiency and thereby improve plant function. Therefore, to evaluate the effectiveness of ZnO application on soybean in drought stress conditions, a split-plot experiment based on ran...
